Book 37: Bossypants - Tina Fey

AUDIOBOOK read by Tina Fey

I’m falling behind on my updates and need to get the remaining ones crammed in before the end of the year, so the rest will be short and sweet.  30 Rock is one of my favorite shows and I picked up Tina Fey’s book because of that fact.  I wasn’t disappointed as her book was hilarious as well.  Somewhat of an autobiography, Fey recounts stories from her past and displays much of the same humor that she does on 30 Rock.  Highly recommended.

Books 15-17: Bloodsucking Fiends, You Suck, Bite Me - Christopher Moore

AUDIOBOOKS read by Susan Bennett

Vampire books.  I know, cliche.  In my defense, Bloodsucking Fiends was published in 1995, way before the Twilight fiasco.  Over the last year or two, I’ve listened to four of Christopher Moore’s other books (Fool, A Dirty Job, Lamb, and Island of the Sequined Love Nun), and these fit with his typical comedic storytelling.  Moore’s vampire trilogy follow a pair of unlikely vampires and a number of supporting characters that wind up battling waves of ancient vampires, vampire cats, and each other.  I enjoyed the books, but made a mistake in listening to them back-to-back as I started to tire of the cast of characters mid-way through the third book.  Moore has a unique style that is probably not for everyone.  If you’ve never read Moore, I’d recommend you start with Fool, Lamb, or A Dirty Job.  If you’ve read Moore and enjoy his style, then I heartily recommend the vampire trilogy.  The books stand on their own, but you’ll get more enjoyment if you read all three in order (just take a bit of a break between each one).

Book 13: The Bedwetter - Sarah Silverman

AUDIOBOOK read by Sarah Silverman

Are you easily offended?  Do you have intellectually stimulating books to read on your list?  Do you have sensitive ears? If you answered yes to any of these, then go ahead and stop reading now and pretend that you’ve never even heard of this book.  If you answered no and you’re a fan of any of Sarah Silverman’s work, then you’ll probably find this book funny and enjoyable.  Bedwetter is essentially a biography for Silverman and she tells her tale in a series of short stories about her life.  While I found my mind wandering during some of the stories, the book was quick reading and ultimately a fun listen.  Silverman does a nice job narrating her book and you can tell that she is having fun with the material.  Not the best book I’ve read this year, but a nice break from more serious fare.

Book 2: Earth (The Book) - The Daily Show

ACTUAL BOOK

As you will see in a few weeks, I’m currently listening to a long Stephen King audiobook, which means I used my limited amount of actual reading time on something a bit more frivolous.  Earth (The Book) is the second offering from the staff at the Daily Show (following America (The Book)) and it continues the hilarious narrative as it touches on many of the aspects of life on our planet.  The book is easy reading and I laughed out loud many times.  I enjoyed America (The Book), but think this one is even better.  The only complaint that I have is that our edition seems to have a tendency to default open to the naked (and enhanced) picture of Larry King.  Not recommended for the easily offended or the weak-stomached, but recommended for everyone else.
